With over £1.35 Million pledged to date and benefiting some 726 different charities it’s easy to understand how in such a short time The Colourthon has established itself as one of the premier fundraising events in Essex! Read about some of the different charities we support on our fundraising page
We believe this success is due mainly to the fact that anyone can walk* and raise valuable sponsorship for any registered charity of their choice.
The Moonlight Colourthon
This has been our flagship event. The ‘Moonlight Colourthon’ is in essence a sponsored walk with a difference. Walkers walk a half marathon (13.1 miles) at night and are encouraged to dress as brightly as their imagination will allow them to!
This year’s events set off from Chalkwell Park at 6pm on Saturday 1st July 2017. It takes in the waterfront along Southend Seafront and Westcliff’s picturesque cliff tops with their brisk sea breezes, drops down overlooking the famous pleasure pier and then travels through the exclusive Chalkwell Hall Estate, past Old Leigh Village with its quaint cottages and fisherman’s sheds returning back through Leigh itself, finishing back at Chalkwell Park.
The Twilight Colourthon
To celebrate our success and to complement our flagship event the ‘Moonlight Colourthon’, in 2012 we introduced a brand new event the ‘Twilight Colourthon’.
The ‘Twilight Colourthon’ is in essence a sponsored twilight walk with a new shorter distance of 10k (6.2 miles). We still want walkers to dress as brightly and imaginatively as they can and to really get involved in the great atmosphere that The Colourthon evokes!
This year’s event sets off from Chalkwell Park at 6pm on Saturday 1st July 2017 at exactly the same time and place as the ‘Moonlight Colourthon’ event. The walkers will follow much of the same route taking in the waterfront along Southend Seafront and Westcliff’s picturesque cliff tops with their brisk sea breezes, the famous pleasure pier and the exclusive Chalkwell Seafront promenade.
It’s at this point the Twilight walkers route changes and sets off through Chalkwell and returns to the park to complete their challenge. A map of the full Twilight Route will be shown below very soon.
How much does it all cost?
The entrance fee for the both events is £20.00.
Not only does this give you entry, but it also includes an exclusive brightly coloured ‘Colourthon’ T-shirt carrying the ‘The Colourthon’ logo and your medal to proudly boast that you’ve completed your walk.
The registration fee is to cover the event set up costs but, should there be any surplus monies following the event it will be donated directly to ‘Southend Round Table 106’ (Registered Charity No. 1052897) to be used to benefit the local community.
How do I register
Following your registration you’ll receive confirmation of your entrance together with detailed event information, sponsorship form, walker’s number etc.
What is the route?
How do I raise funds?
You can raise money for any charity you like and we ask that all the sponsorship money that you raise and collect should be sent directly to your nominated charity. For each of your sponsors that ticks the Gift Aid box on the sponsorship form the charity will also benefit from a tax refund currently 25% of the total raised (e.g. every £10 raised will be worth £12.50 to your charity).
Should you not have a particular charity you wish to support but would like to enter the event we would be delighted for you to walk for Southend Round Table, just enter them as your nominated charity on the Registration Form.
